San Diego, CA – Oceanside High School standout Ezaya Tokio, one of Southern California’s most versatile and physically gifted athletes, officially committed to the University of Washington on July 1, 2025. The 6’4”, 220-pound linebacker and tight end announced his decision after fielding offers from major programs including UCLA, Colorado, and Michigan State.
A 3-star athlete in the Class of 2026, Tokio has been steadily rising on recruiting boards thanks to his unique combination of size, athleticism, and football IQ. Whether delivering bone-rattling hits on defense or creating mismatches as a receiving threat on offense, he’s proven to be a game-changer on both sides of the ball.
“Ezaya has a very high ceiling,” said one of the area scouts, who has been evaluating him closely throughout his high school career. “His energy is contagious. He’s a guy who shows up every day ready to compete in the fall for Friday night lights and spring for camps and 7v7. That kind of mindset is rare, and it’s why I believe he’s only scratched the surface of what he can become.”
At Oceanside High, Tokio has been a pillar of the team’s defense, showing the instincts and sideline-to-sideline speed that top college programs covet in a modern linebacker. As a tight end, he’s just as dangerous—his height and physicality make him a red zone nightmare for opposing defenses.

His commitment to Washington marks a big win for the Huskies, who are loading up on versatile, high-upside talent as they continue to build for the future in the Big Ten. For Tokio, it’s a decision that came down to finding the right fit both on and off the field.
As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Ezaya Tokio as he looks to close out his high school career with a statement season—and prove once again why the Huskies made him a priority.
