Las Vegas, NV — In a program known for producing elite talent, Bishop Gorman High School’s Isaiah Nickels has emerged as one of the most dynamic two-way players in the state. Standing at 5’11” and 165 pounds, Nickels is a playmaker at both wide receiver and defensive back — and he’s already cemented his legacy heading into his senior year in the Class of 2026.
Nickels’ junior season was nothing short of impressive. On defense, he recorded 21 tackles, 3 interceptions, and locked down opposing receivers with the kind of instinct and athleticism that earned him First Team All-State 5A honors as a defensive back. His ability to read plays and close on the ball made him a cornerstone of Bishop Gorman’s elite defense.
But Nickels wasn’t just a star on defense. On offense, he contributed with 2 receiving touchdowns, and he proved to be electric in the return game as well, amassing 300 return yards, including one punt return touchdown. His all-around versatility has made him a constant threat any time he’s on the field.
Colleges took notice. Nickels received offers from Idaho State, Boise State, Utah Tech, and Hawaii — ultimately committing to the Rainbow Warriors, where he’s expected to bring immediate impact in the secondary and potentially on special teams.
When asked why Hawaii, “The coaches, former Gorman players, and the Big Island, represent a good family tradition that feels like home, as my mom is also from Hawaii,” Nickels said. “
Off the field, Isaiah is known for his down-to-earth personality and strong family values. “When I’m not playing football, I love hanging out with my family,” he says — a humble reminder of what keeps him grounded amid his rising stardom.
With one final season left at Bishop Gorman, Nickels is poised to add to his already impressive resume, and fans can expect more highlight-reel plays as he helps lead the Gaels in their pursuit of another state championship.
