CLAYTON, N.C. — In an era where shutdown corners are a premium commodity, Clayton High School’s Akedran “Ak” Crumel is proving he’s one of the best in the country—class of 2027 or otherwise. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior isn’t just a name to watch; he’s already a name coaches across the country have circled in red.

Crumel, who lines up at both cornerback and safety for the Comets, was named All-Conference in 2024 after a dominant sophomore season. His stat line reads like something out of a college highlight reel: 48 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 5 interceptions, 10 pass breakups, and—most impressively—four games where opposing quarterbacks didn’t even dare throw his way.

“Ak has that rare combination of length, speed, instincts, and confidence,” said one of the area coaches . “He’s got a high football IQ and just makes plays. Opposing teams have to game-plan around him.”

Off the field, Crumel is just as focused. His love for the game runs deep—so deep, in fact, that he says as a toddler, he’d choose to watch ESPN over cartoons. That early dedication is now translating into serious attention from college programs coast to coast.

Crumel currently holds over 25 Division I offers, including Florida State, Ohio State, Miami, USC, UNC, NC State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, and many more. It’s no surprise—Crumel’s size, versatility, and ball skills make him an ideal fit for modern defensive schemes.

Heading into his junior campaign, expectations are sky-high. With recruiting buzz intensifying and national scouts taking note, Crumel remains grounded, focusing on team success first.

With talent, drive, and maturity beyond his years, Ak Crumel is more than a three-star recruit—he’s a future difference-maker at the next level. And if history is any indication, quarterbacks might want to look elsewhere come Friday nights.
